We've Got Snow

I don't like snow. Actually, that's not strictly true. What I should say is that I don't like going out in snow. I don't like the cold, I much prefer to be inside where it's nice and warm. I especially don't like going out in snow at the present time as I was taking Archie for a walk on Monday when it was icy and I took a tumble. I thought I was ok at the time but my leg's quite painful now and I'm a bit nervous of going out again when it's slippery.

Archie had to make do with a quick trip in the garden this morning and he'll get the same this afternoon. Mick will take him for a good walk when he gets in from work to make up for it, though I doubt he'll mind as he doesn't like going out in the snow either.

My little pond is covered in ice and snow.

The spring bulbs which I planted in containers are managing to poke through the snow. It seems that nothing holds them back once they've made up their mind to grow.

It's still snowing now, we're forecast light snow all day. I hope it doesn't hang around.

  1. We have bulbs growing here, but no snow. Our Magnolia tree has buds as well, a bit early. Hope you are feeling better soon.

    1. It won't be long before all those buds start to burst open, thinking about that keeps me going through winter. Thank you, my leg feels much better than it did yesterday but is still rather sore.

  2. Snowing in Ossett too. It's wet snow so I'm hoping it wont be around too long. Tivvy doesn't like walks in the snow either so Archie isn't on his own. Hope your leg improves soon.

    1. Ours hasn't started to melt yet and it's still coming down but it's very light so it isn't really being added to. The snow tends to stick to Archie's coat so he ends up coming home with snowballs attached to him. Thank you, I think there must be a bit of bruising inside.

  3. We got snow at the weekend which is just about gone now. It wasn't enough to stop us getting out and about though we did see a few others who'd had accidents. I don't mind the snow but I hate it to be icy. Well, I don't like snow if I have to drive in it. Too scary!

    1. I'm with you on that one. I'm not very keen on driving when the conditions are good so it's a definite no no when there's snow on the ground.

  4. We've had another lot of snow that's mounting up again. It's very difficult to get out and drive in our hilly area especially on our no through road where we live as the ice and snow settles and freezes because it doesn't get churned up by traffic. Daughter has another sick note as she can't lift anything, walk or sit comfortably and, of course, can't drive or go to work after her serious fall. Do take care and hope you're soon recovered from your fall on the ice. Also hope your daughter is coping with her exams.

    1. It's the same here. I live on a cul de sac and the road doesn't get the sun shining on it so it takes ages to melt, in fact, the small amount of traffic we get tends to compact the snow so it turns to ice. Your daughter's accident shows just how dangerous the conditions can be. Thank you, I'm just glad I didn't do any serious damage to myself, there's nothing to actually see on my leg so I think it must be bruised inside. Eleanor's finished her exams now, she's just waiting for the results. They were only mocks though whereas Daniel's just taken some exams which count towards his degree. They usually keep them waiting for weeks before they get their results.

  5. You're right. Snow is OK if you want to go skiing, or just to look at it, but it can also be a big nuisance. Here in Hampshire we have avoided it so far.

    1. Glad you've managed to avoid the snow so far. I can't remember getting any last year so I didn't think we'd get off quite so lightly again this year, though our weather hasn't been too bad so far this winter.

  6. We had a few flakes last night but nothing settled. I like a walk in the snow so I've been hoping for it here but apart from that I could happily live without it. Take care x

    1. It's lovely when it first falls, it looks so pretty, but I don't like it when it turns to ice or slush. I'm hoping that this lot we've got doesn't hang around too long.

  7. I hope that you feel better, soon. It's easily done. That's one reason that I don't like snow.
Thankfully there's been none here yet. Flighty xx

    1. Thank you. My leg is much better than it was yesterday so I'm hopeful that it's on the mend now. I hope you manage to avoid the show, it's starting to fall a little heavier again here but I'm hoping it isn't going to last.

    1. I wish I could send it over to you, you'd be very welcome to it. The temperature here has dropped just recently, we've had some frosty and icy mornings.

  9. Sorry to hear that you've taken a tumble Jo and hope that your leg soon heals. It's beautiful to look at but can be lethal if you have to venture anywhere. None here but a friend less than a couple of miles away reported snow settling on the ground last night.

    1. Thank you, I'm sure I'll be soon on the mend. It's funny how the weather can be so different even a couple of miles away.

  10. Sorry about your leg I hope it is soon better. Have your any we'll shoes as they may be less likely to slip and not as bad fir walking I'd as weekly boots. I bought a pair last year for the plot, Our snow can't make up it's mind whether it is snow, sleet or rain. My sister in Rothwell has even less than us and she is between our two locations,

    1. Thank you. I'm sure it won't stay painful very long. I was going to wear my walking boots but to be honest, they don't have a very good grip so I wore my regular boots which usually have a better grip, not in this case though. It's been snowing here all day but it's only been light, it hasn't added anything to what we woke up to. The road had turned slightly mushy now so I'm hoping to find it gone when I wake up in the morning.

  11. I am with you Jo, I do not like snow either. It looks pretty but that is about it.
I do hope you have not done anything too serious and that the pain soon goes. Do be careful........sometimes these things come back to haunt us.

I am sure Archie will manage without his walk.....if my memory serves me well Cavaliers are couch potatoes :)

    1. Thank you, I'm sure my leg will be fine. My pride was dented more than my body but I don't think anyone saw me fall so that's one good thing, I didn't go down gracefully. Archie would quite happily snooze all day long, we do have to force him to go out sometimes, he's such a lazy dog.

  12. Hope the snow doesn't get deep and crisp and even! We have escaped so far, here in deepest Lincolnshire, and I hope it stays that way! I heard on the radio that it is quite bad in parts of W Yorks.
    Hope your injury heals asap!

    1. It's still hanging around today but we haven't had any more to add to it, thank goodness. There were some school closures here in West Yorkshire but not in our neck of the woods. Thank you, my leg feels much better today.

  14. Snow does look lovely but not so practical (and not too much gardening to be had in it!).

    1. No gardening happening at all here. I love looking at the snow when it's just fallen, or is still falling, but I don't like going out in it.

  16. Poor you, I hope you're okay and quickly mended. I went down on the Tesco forecourt like a sack of potatoes a while back. Their tiles were wet and slippery. It really hurt! I tried to retreat gracefully, but I didn't really pull it off. CJ xx

    1. Thank you, I'm definitely on the mend now. I did that thing where you get up and pretend it didn't happen, then a couple of moments later look around to see if anyone saw you. Luckily, there wasn't anyone around to see my embarrassment.

  17. I'm sorry you slipped - I hope your leg recovers quickly and that the snow clears soon. We have had lots of snow and none of it has stuck. My children are very upset about the lack of any snow days off school.

I enjoy the way the world sounds different after snowfall. To be honest, I love snow; I just hate driving in it.

Don't worry... it will soon be spring.

    1. Thank you, the leg is feeling much better but the snow is still here. There were some schools closed yesterday but none near me so Eleanor had to go in. I know what you mean about the world sounding different, I think people act differently when there's snow on the ground too, neighbours pitching in to clear driveways and people who wouldn't normally talk stopping in their tracks to pass the time of day. Yes, roll on spring.

  18. I love snow providing I don't have to drive in it and then I become a shaking wreck! No snow here xxxx

    1. I refuse to drive if there's snow on the ground, Eleanor's sent off to school in warm clothes as she knows she'll have to walk home, there'll be no lift unless the roads are clear.

  19. Oh Jo, sorry to hear that you had a tumble. No fun at all. I think that staying in and letting your leg get better is a very good idea. I hope that it is all mended very soon. Take care. xx

  20. Oh Brrrrrrr! My son is on his way back up to Leeds tomorrow morning so I'll be able to warn him about the weather. I'm glad to read that your leg is less painful, Jo - I hate that feeling of not being able to plant my feet firmly on the ground. So far only a short flurry of snow last weekend and a -3 night ahead of us but I'm hoping that we avoid snow here as I've too much outside work to do! I hope it clears very soon for you, not least because then Archie can resume his long walks and I needn't worry about my son cycling in bad weather! C xx

    1. I don't think we're forecast any more snow so it looks like your son has missed it. I hope you manage to avoid the snow where you are, it's so inconvenient when we want to be getting on with outside jobs, there's not much you can do when we're blanketed in the white stuff.

  21. Oh you poor thing, here's to your leg healing soon! I know what you mean about snow, it's lovely to look at it but no fun walking dogs in it, we've had lots of ice and hail and it does make dogwalking difficult....you feel like you're taking your life in your hands. Here's to it clearing soon, it seems to have been freezing for ages here.xxx

    1. My leg is so much better today but I nearly slipped again when I took Archie out this morning, the pavements are treacherous, so much black ice about. I'm hoping, like you, that the weather warms up soon so that it all clears.

  22. Glad you are on the mend, Jo. I agree with you totally about going outside when it is cold. We have a lot of ice at the moment and a big snowstorm forecast for later today. Brrr. But your bulbs poking up through the snow create wonderful feelings of hope!! Stay warm. P. x
