Ready To Flower

We spent Sunday morning moving everything out of the greenhouse so that I could get my tomatoes potted in their final pots and moved in to their final positions. As you can see, the plants are just starting to flower so it really was time that this job was done. I've got two plants each of three varieties - Tangella, San Marzano and Gardener's Delight, and I can just manage to fit these in my small 6 foot by 4 foot greenhouse. Six plants provide enough tomatoes for us as there's only me who eats them. My son will occasionally pop a sun warmed cherry tomato in his mouth, but that's about it. They don't know what they're missing.

I had intended to spend Sunday afternoon at the allotment, but the weather had other ideas. It started raining at lunch time and didn't stop all day. It was quite heavy at times so it will have given everything a much needed watering, including the weeds, I bet it's a jungle when I do get down there now.

As well as the tomatoes coming in to flower, there's a couple of flowers on my pepper plants and the first of the courgettes is just about to bloom too. Roll on the harvests.

    Hi Jo,
Sorry I don't know what happened there, it was the Kreative Blogger award. Glad you are happy to have it.

I have got a few tomatoes on my moneymakers and like you I can't wait until they are ready to eat.

I'll be interested to see what your cherries taste like. I treated myself to a punnet in the supermarket today, they were very expensive and utterly disgusting. I am not doing that again!

  4. Jo, have you ever grown San Marzano outdoors? I want to identify a "plum" style tomato that will perform well for me (and I don't have a greenhouse).

  7. I love growing tomatoes and I love the smell, but pop one in my mouth? I try every year, my tastebuds know I will spit it out but my brain is convinced I should like them. It's only fresh tomatoes that have this effect :)

  8. I love fresh tomatoes. But they must have salt.

  9. The weather put paid to our plot plans last weekend too. Glad to hear you've got your toms out, have to admit we're about the harvest our first few but I have no idea quite how we ended up so organised on that front. ;)

  10. I think tomatoes are the things I look forward to harvesting most, Su. I can't wait.

Cherries are so expensive to buy, Bluebell. The one I tried from my tree two years ago was delicious, I should be able to give you more of an idea this year though, there's quite a few on the tree and they're ripening nicely. Thanks again for the award.

It's extremely exciting, Martin. Not only the tomatoes but everything else which is coming on leaps and bounds.

I grew San Marzano for the first time last year, Mark, and it was in the greenhouse. I was very impressed with them though so if anything happened to my greenhouse I would certainly give them a try outdoors.

It seems we're at the same stage with lots of things, Sue. I suppose it's to be expected though with us living so close.

Thanks, Flighty. Hope you're tomatoes are coming on too.

My hubby won't eat fresh tomatoes either, Mo, but he eats tomato on pizza and happy to have it in bolognese, whereas my son won't touch a thing if it's got tomato in it.

My mum's just the same, Don't unplug your hub. She has to have salt with tomatoes. I can take it or leave it.

You're very organised, Paul. I can't wait till I start harvesting. Looks like a bad weather forcast for tomorrow again, hope it's better on Sunday.

  11. My pepper plants don't seem to be doing anything again...I really don't know why they don't like growing for me...i guess more research is needed!!
