This is the view from my bedroom window at the moment. Outside is a lilac tree and it's just come in to bloom, providing me with a gorgeous perfume whenever I open the window. We had a lilac tree in my childhood home, but it's blooms were much paler than these. This tree was planted before we moved here seventeen years ago.
I'm determined to spend some time at the allotment over this weekend. Today, we spent the day in the Yorkshire Dales, you can read about it on my other blog, Through The Keyhole, and tomorrow, hubby is playing cricket, but I need to allocate some time to getting my shallots and onions planted, as well as getting the strawberry bed dug over so that I can get the plants which are in pots planted out.
I'm pleased to note that the seeds which I sowed a fortnight ago have just about all germinated. Courgettes, marrows and pumpkins are all large seeds and so are there seedlings so it won't be long before I have to pot them on. It's all go in April and May.
Now that would be perfect outside my bedroom window as it would match just right!

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful Lilac tree. I like the darker coloured ones better than the pale ones. At present I have practically NO view from my bedroom window, because my Crab Apple tree is in full bloom. Looks nice, but certainly restricts the light!
ReplyDeleteMy germination rate has been good except for my marrows....I have never had a problem before but so far I can't get one to germinate....guess that's just the way it goes!!
ReplyDeleteLovely colour - I remember we had lilacs in our garden when I was a child and I used to take some to school to pop in a vase.
ReplyDeleteWe also had a large lilac bush in our garden right at the bottom when I was younger. I so loved the fragrance but it used to set my hayfever off a treat!! :)

ReplyDeleteYes it is a busy time at the moment with seedlings needing potting on etc - tomorrow I have to pot on my tomatoes and peppers, today I potted on nicotiana which i will sow direct next time - such tiny seedlings, a nightmare!
My courgette seeds have also germinated, and i have an old wheelbarrow that im hoping to plant some in when the time comes!

We have a Lilac outside our window too! I am the opposite of you, the lilac from my childhood home was that colour whereas the one we have now is lighter! It really is a great smell, I am so glad there is one in our new garden!

I love the colour too, Pam. I wouldn't be surprised if you could smell it, it's got a very strong scent. You'll be enjoying your's when mine's finished.
I bet your crab apple looks wonderful from your window, Mark. I can imagine that all it's blooms will restrict the light though, but it's only for a short period of time so enjoy it while it lasts.
It's funny how some things differ from year to year, Tanya. It's the first year I'm growing marrows and they've germinated ok.
My lilac always reminds me of my childhood garden, Sue. I remember taking all sorts in to school, especially for the nature table.
I used to suffer with hayfever terribly when I was a child, Ruth, so I do sympathise. I do still have it from time to time but it's no where near as bad now.
Hope you've managed to get all your potting on done, Gill. The courgette wheelbarrow sounds interesting, it's amazing how resourceful we gardeners can be when finding containers for our plants.
I agree, Rosie, it's lovely having a lilac in the garden. I get excited when I see it start to bud, but the blooms are over all too quick.
I hang a lot of my bird feeders from the lilac tree, Flighty. I wouldn't be able to see the birds from my bedroom window, but I can see them from the downstairs window.
Mmmmmm ~ what a glorious scent must drift into your bedroom on warm spring days Jo :) I prefer the shade of yours to the paler ones.
