Last autumn when I was choosing which crocus to grow this year, I came across Miss Vain. I didn't read the packet they came in, I just went by the photo where the blooms looked cream and I thought they were pretty. It wasn't until I got home and read up on the variety that I discovered Miss Vain is in fact a white crocus.
It was actually a happy accident picking up a white variety as I do like white flowers and these have been spectacular.
I bought two packets, twenty bulbs in total, for the total sum of £2.00. What a bargain.
They were planted in a shallow terracotta pot and they've made such a pretty display.
I have no hesitation in recommending Miss Vain if you're after a white crocus, I shall definitely purchase this variety again myself.

The photo does look cream. I am planning on buying a white crocus for the blue and white bed so this will be a contender - is it large flowered?
ReplyDeleteThe photo certainly doesn't make them look as brilliant white as they actually are. They don't produce large flowers, they're actually fairly small.
DeleteSue 'Joan of Arc' is a large flowering crocus that I grow, and really like. Flighty xx
DeleteJoan of Arc may be more suitable as it's a perfect white whereas Miss Vain has a yellow throat, which I actually like.
DeleteStunning, I love white and yellow flowers in our garden.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I love the yellow throats of this white variety.
DeleteSuper looking bargain crocus... Yes I too have got the bulb bug too and can't wait to see the results of my bulb lasangne which I planted last year.
ReplyDeleteI've never lasagne planted bulbs but I've got some fairly large containers so perhaps I'll give it a try.
DeleteWonderful display, and a bargain too xcx
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased with them, they've put on a fabulous show and all for the cost of a couple of pounds.
DeleteHow beautiful - what a lot of happiness for £2!
ReplyDeleteThey're stunners, and they've been blooming for ages. Great value.
DeleteThey are gorgeous - I planted a bunch of bulbs including crocus at my first house, but have yet to get to it at our current place. I'm looking forward to getting to that stage in our plans.
ReplyDeleteIt's so exciting planting bulbs, they show just at the right time to cheer you up at the end of winter.
DeleteMy "white" Crocuses have been good too. In fact I think it has been a very good year for Crocuses all round. It is never possible to rely too much on marketing photos on products like bulbs. I find they are often completely wrong!
ReplyDeleteThese crocuses have put on a wonderful display and the ones I have planted in the ground have done well too. I thought I was buying a cream variety but I'm not unhappy with white, they're absolutely beautiful.
DeleteWhat a very pretty crocus.. and at a bargain price :o)
ReplyDeleteI've never grown white crocuses before but they'll be at the top of the list from now on.
DeleteThey are most pretty indeed Jo and it's fortunate that you liked them. The photo on the packet is most misleading.
ReplyDeleteI think I got a better crocus than I expected from the photo on the packet. I'd definitely grow this variety again, it's so pretty.
DeleteBeautiful, I love white flowers as well, and what a bargain. So much nicer than daffodils. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteI'm quite partial to daffodils too but crocuses will do whilst I wait for the daffodils to bloom.
DeleteBeautiful flowers that I can't find here!
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame you can't find crocuses there, they're such lovely flowers.
DeleteJust love it when you happen across a happy accident and a bargain to boot. Back in the day, I bought some crocus bulbs from Woolworths and they've bloomed year after year for more than 25 years.
ReplyDeleteI do miss Woolworths, you could pick up some real bargains in there, though we've got Wilkinson's now which is very similar I suppose. I've got tulips and daffodils in my garden which were here before we moved in, twenty one years ago. Some plants just seem to go on and on.
DeleteWe saw the lovely crocus on the Harrogate strays a couple of weeks ago. The white ones were particularly magnificent "WHY HAVE WE NOT GOT ANY" said Brenda.
ReplyDeleteWhite crocus are on the list!
You're not alone, this is the first time I've grown white crocuses but it won't be the last, they've been fabulous.
DeleteOh....a lovely surprise, the white is SO much nicer!xxx
ReplyDeleteI think so too. I shall definitely go for these again.
DeleteLike you Jo, I love white flowers. The crocus are stunning and this is certainly one I would buy.
ReplyDeleteI grow a white species tulip.......small and neat. I have them protected this year to stop rabbit damage, so hopefully I will be able to share them on my blog.
Lovely Spring images.
I will definitely buy this variety again myself, they've been wonderful. I hope you manage to thwart those pesky rabbits with the protection for your tulips, it would be a such a shame to miss their blooms. I think spring is finally springing.
DeleteThey are gorgoeus and a bargain to boot!
ReplyDeleteThey are. I'm very happy with them.
DeleteThey're very pretty. I have a feeling my bulb order this autumn is going to huge.;)
ReplyDeleteIt's hard knowing when to stop when it comes to bulbs, such a huge, and very lovely, choice.
