Photo Medley - January

I often have lots of photos on my camera which don't make it on to the blog for one reason or another, I may take a photo which doesn't fit in to a blog post or I may have taken far too many photos of a subject to include them all in one blog post. I had an idea that I would combine all these odd photos at the end of each month and show them on my blog. When it's come near to the end of January, I've had a look at what I've got and unfortunately, it doesn't amount to much, probably because the weather's been too cold to be out and about with my camera.

As there isn't much else to add to this post, I thought I'd show a few more photos I took at Harlow Carr last Saturday.

One of the borders which was covered in snow but which I'm sure will be beautiful when everything starts blooming again.

The snow still hanging around, but starting to melt. I'm sure it's all gone by now.

Snowdrops.

Narcissus Romieuxii in the Alpine House.

Roses are still giving a little colour, even in the depths of winter.

I hope to have more photos to include in these posts in future months, I must get out and about more with my camera.

  1. Love that Narcissus. This and the last post have inspired me to use my greenhouse to better effect in winter.

    1. I do too, it's so delicate looking. My greenhouse is only used to store things and overwinter tender plants during winter, it's only small though, 4X6, so there isn't really room to start up a winter hobby in there.

  2. The weather is really against us getting good photos these days. Yours are very nice.

    1. It is, we've had so many dark, drizzly days. A bit more sunshine would be very welcome.

    1. Definitely. There were lots of containers planted up with bulbs and of course, there'll be plenty in the gardens too.

  4. What a good idea for a post. I may well do something similar if I get my photos sorted out. Flighty xx

    1. I find I've always got photos which don't fit in to a blog post for one reason or another. I thought it was a good idea for a post until I came to do it this month, isn't it typical that it's been a quiet month on the photo taking front.

    1. It's such a pretty variety. I have some just pushing through the soil in the garden but the ones I have aren't as dainty as these.

  6. Roses and snowdrops, what a beautiful combination. The alpines are gorgeous too, so exotic looking.

    1. It's not often we can say we've seen roses and snowdrops in the same garden. There's some real treasures in the Alpine House, such pretty little blooms.

  7. This is one reason that we started an online photo portfolio and why I started my Wordless Wednesday posts - we just don't know when to stop clicking do we?

    1. It's just all too easy with digital cameras. I'm hoping that a few more of my photos will get used with these monthly posts.

  8. I noticed my snowdrops were just emerging last week, but no narcissi here yet, no any snow!

    1. I haven't even noticed my snowdrops yet, I think I need to have a good look around when I go out again. We're forecast snow again overnight, though it's blowing a gale at the moment.

  9. Nice Jo, but the one I love best, are those cute little narcissus, just gorgeous. Take care.

    1. The narcissus is so pretty. Alpines tend to look too delicate to grow outdoors, they're fabulous for displays in dedicated houses like this one at Harlow Carr.

    1. I'm hoping to do plenty of garden visiting over the course of the year so there should be plenty of opportunities for a bit of photography.

  11. Our snowdrops are sneaking into flower now, but little else apart from hellebores.
Those random roses are so very welcome in the depths of winter, aren't they.

    1. It's the same here, though I haven't even seen any snowdrops in the garden yet. It's been a bit of a strange year seeing roses blooming amongst snowdrops and hellebores, very welcome though.

  12. What a good idea Jo, I'm the same, I always have far too many pics that don't belong in a post. How lovely to see flowers blooming, I can't wait for spring and to see the back of this horrible cold weather.xxx

    1. I think most of the few blooms around will now be covered by the snow we've had overnight, I'm so looking forward to spring and a return to some warmer weather.
