As another month nears its end, it's time for a round up of photos which haven't yet made it on to the blog. Not a great selection this month, the bad weather, low light levels and the fact that I haven't been out and about very much means that I don't have very much to show.
First of all, a couple more photos from our visit to Harlow Carr at the very beginning of the month. We definitely had the best day of the month weather wise, the sun was shining and I was walking around in a t-shirt, it all went downhill from there.
There was some beautiful colour in the garden but the trees were starting to lose their leaves, we managed to visit just in time for the final fanfare.
Though many plants had finished flowering, the asters were still going strong and were lit beautifully by the late morning sunshine.
Another photo of the Chrysanthemums I've been enjoying indoors, kindly supplied by Mick's uncle.
Some more photos from our visit to Lister Park.
The hydrangeas were still blooming providing some welcome colour.
Some flowers were starting to fade, they're still beautiful though.
We saw the gunnera looking very sad at Harlow Carr but here in Lister Park, it was still going strong, even with a sprinkling of snow.
That's it for another month. It's raining here today and very, very windy. Spring can't come soon enough for me.
Gift Knitting

When you look there are loads of colour around at this time of year. It's very windy here tonight so I expect my garden to be finished off by the morning.
ReplyDeleteWe've been very lucky this year to have such a mild autumn, lots of plants have gone on flowering much longer than usual. I'm just hoping that it's only the plants which are damaged in the morning, the wind is terrible here, I do hope we all get out of it unscathed.
DeleteWhat a difference a couple of weeks make. By latest blog post on Harlow Carr lacked those lovely colours.
ReplyDeleteThings change so quickly at this time of year. We were so lucky to visit when we did, we had great weather and many plants and trees were hanging on to their last showing of colour.
DeleteToday we have had a real gale of wind. Definitely not a day for being out and about - and it hardly seemed to get light at all. I hate the dark days and long nights!
ReplyDeleteIt's been the same here, I've had the light on all day, it's just never got light. I'm looking forward to spring already.
DeleteYou really do have to take advantage when you can - this month has seen warm, cold, rain, snow, wind, and even a bit of hail on one day. We had a cold, clear and absolutely still morning today, which doesn't happen too often - it was so lovely and crisp it prompted me to go outside and take a few photos.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean, I to try and get out when the weather allows at this time of year, you just never know what the next day will bring. I was surprised to see snow here so early in the season, I'm just hoping that's the last we see for quite some time.
DeleteGorgeous photos, so much texture, and the leaves are all looking beautiful. I'm suddenly in love with asters having seen how much the bees love them late in the season. They're on my list for next year. Wild weather here as well, I've been out in it most of the day. Oh how blissful it is to be home and warm and dry. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteI doubt there'll be many leaves left on the trees after the wind we've had this weekend. Asters are such lovely plants for a late flush of colour and as you say, the bees love them. You're definitely made of sterner stuff than I being out in this weather, even Archie turned his nose up when it was time for his walk.
DeleteHey Jo,
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been pretty awful here. Very windy and misty rain. Not the best dog walking combo. The Hydrangeas in the garden are still looking resplendent in all their faded glory.
Leanne xx
I think it's been the same everywhere today, I just hope it clears up soon as Archie isn't keen on going for a walk in it. I'm surprised how well hydraneas have done this year, their blooms seem to be never ending. I've had one in a container for a few years but it wasn't very happy so I've finally bit the bullet and planted it out this year, I'm hoping it will be happier and put on a better show next year.
DeleteA nice selection of pictures. It's been the same here today, and I agree with your last sentence. Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I enjoy about winter is Christmas. I hope the weather's better this week, there looks like a bit of improvement if the forecast is anything to go by, I just hope it's right.
DeleteThe Gunnera must have been sheltered by the other plants, perhaps creating a mini micro climate.
ReplyDeleteI have lost four Gunnera...... why would you plant them when your garden is in a frost pocket :) I have given up now, they are just too expensive to keep losing but I do so love those gigantic leaves and wonderful flowers........
Hydrangea look great when the flowers fade.......
Love the snail.....is it on a gate? Or a piece of artwork carefully placed ?
Have a good week Jo..........
Perhaps so. They're really stunning plants, they certainly have the wow factor. I think hydrangeas are lovely flowers, as you say, they still look fabulous as the flowers fade. The snail is a piece of artwork, there were other installations too. I think this kind of art can really add to a garden.
DeleteLovely selection of flowers. And I loved all the photos.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see some flowers around at this time of year to brighten things up a bit.
DeleteAnother lovely selection! I really like the gate! xx
ReplyDeleteThere's some attractive artwork in the garden, it adds a little extra interest.
DeleteBeautiful chrysanthemum! Oh please, no hydrangea in my garden right now. The last one was dried suddenly and then died. I was so disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI love yellow chrysanthemums especially. Such a shame about your hydrangea, they're lovely flowers so perhaps you could have another go with one.
DeleteI agree roll on spring.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a miserable morning again but it looks to be brightening up now. Let's hope it continues to improve.
DeleteOh I do so agree about Spring. It's a shame to wish the months away but I do hate this constant grey and wet. And the wind! Love the hydrangeas, to me they look so much better when they have faded a bit.
ReplyDeleteI really don't like winter at all and it gets worse the older I get. I agree about hydrangeas, I think they look beautiful once they've faded a bit.
DeleteI'm with you, I am heartily sick of wind and endless rain! Just walking the dogs is enough....why oh why do they want to go out in weather like this????
ReplyDeleteThe asters and acers are lovely, great for early november.xxx
Archie hates this weather, he turns his nose up as soon as I open the door to take him out, he's much happier indoors where it's nice and warm. There's some great plants about for late autumn colour.
DeleteLovely to see the different colours in your photo's Jo.
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the artwork of the snail with the pampas grass behind, it looks great.
I always think this time of year to get out and see what colour there is available is nice to do, because with the nights drawing in so early just to have some memories of special colour just makes for a lovely feeling.
I do hope the week has gone well ... enjoy Thursday and Friday.
All the best Jan
It's great to have so much colour still at this time of year, though I think many things are on their way out now. There's always something else waiting to take over though. It's very foggy here today, I haven't turned the light off yet as it's so dark, not my favourite kind of day.
