Photo Medley - September

The end of another month so time again for some photos which haven't yet made it on to the blog.

A few more photos from our visit to Cannon Hall Walled Garden at the beginning of the month.

Seed heads at Harlow Carr indicate that the season is coming to a close.

Lilies. One of the birthday gifts I received from a friend.

An abundance of tomatoes, and still they keep on coming. I picked another seven pounds yesterday with plenty more to come.

Still sowing seeds.

The trees are clothed in their autumn colours.

That's it for another month. The weather is decidedly autumnal as we head in to October, and there was I, hoping for a late summer. Oh well, there's always next year.

  1. Our weather over the weekend was definitely Autumney - bright sunshine and blue skies, but blooming chilly at night time. I reckon we might get our first frost within a few days.

    1. I went out in to the garden this morning and thought the same thing myself. I think my Christmas potatoes and spring onions will be taken under cover much sooner than I thought.

  2. Good selection of pictures illustrating the time of year perfectly. Flighty xx

    1. Unfortunately, there's no getting away from it. Given the summer we've had, I didn't think it too much to expect an Indian summer, but it isn't to be.

  3. I love the second photo ...

Yes, Autumn is here - quite chiily in the mornings, and definitely getting into nice warm soup weather ...

    All the best Jan

    1. The walled garden at Cannon Hall is huge, all split in to different areas and this pond can be found in one. We've had a mist the last few mornings, it takes a while to lift.

  4. Lovely roundup of photos. After seeing your tomatoes in grow bags, I've planted 3 in pots on the back patio to see how they go. Wish me luck, though I never seem to have trouble with those tiny ones, which then seem to come up all over the garden next summer (giggle). I've also planted some beans, silver beet and mixed lettuce. Now it seems we have a week of no rain and next weekend is going to be in the 30's. Oh well, thats our weather for you. Take care.

    1. I'm sure your tomatoes will do just fine, as will everything else. Just make sure that you keep them well watered, they tend to dry out much quicker in containers than they do in the ground.

    1. Thank you. I hate summer ending, it's even more disappointing this year because we haven't really had one to speak of.

    1. My tomatoes will be coming to an end soon, it's sad when the end of the season approaches but it won't be long until we're sowing seeds again.

    1. We're spoilt for choice really, so many places to visit and so little time. We do enjoy Cannon Hall though.

  8. Sounds like our weather is in sync right now - lovely days but chilly nights. I'll likely be doing a final harvest of many things this coming week as those nighttime temps start inching closer to the low single digits.

    1. The last few days have started off very misty and it's lasted right in to the afternoons. I doubt it will be long until we have a frost and that will mark the end of many crops.

It is sunny and warm here and has been for around six days, it is supposed to last into next week:)

    1. I don't think there's any holding autumn back now. I've woken up to a mist for the last few days which hasn't budged until into the afternoon. I wouldn't mind a bit of sunny, warm weather.

    1. Taking photos definitely helps with blog posts. I find that if I have photos of things, then I have something to write about too.

  11. We've had a couple of misty mornings but clear by 10. Not much colour on the trees yet but we are still enjoying an warm spell, strange year all round there's still elderflowers in bloom but hardly any blackberries.

    1. I've noticed the leaves starting to fall now, no denying it's autumn even though we've had some lovely afternoons this past week after the mist has cleared. I think the forecast is set to change this week.

  12. Nice September medley, Jo. Our weather is awful right now -- high winds and rain, and oh, so cold. The leaves are turning rapidly. Enjoy the new season! P. x

    1. It's sunny today but definitely colder, I don't think the forecast is up to much this week though. I've sown some spring onions to give them a head start ready for next year.
